Today I wanted to share some thoughts on some common misconceptions people have about virtual design (eDesign). Transitioning into eDesign has been such a fun process and I really had no idea it was even an option before I learned more about it!
Common Misconceptions
1. “eDesign is not as quality as in-person interior design”
Virtual design (eDesign) produces just as beautiful interiors as an in-person designer would. This is however dependent on the eDesigner that you choose. If you were going to hire an in-person designer to come decorate your living room, you would choose to work with someone who had similar style to your own, someone you enjoyed spending time with, and someone whose work you admired. The same process applies to eDesign! You will find that you will be just as satisfied working with an eDesigner if you choose to work with someone that meets your criteria and matches your style.
2. “You can’t work with furniture I want to keep in my space”
Yes I can! By receiving measurements and pictures from you, I can incorporate any furniture you may already have into your design plan. If you are paying for a render, I can find a similar piece of furniture to represent what you already own. If you need help choosing what to keep and what to buy, I can help you with that as well.
3. “I’m concerned I’ll be designing the room myself without any help…”
With eDesign, you are directly hiring a designer to decorate your space for you. It is not a virtual program where you play around and pick out furniture. You work with a real-life person (hopefully me!). I personally do not advise you on any structural changes to your home, however there are some eDesigners that do that. We collaborate and discuss your vision and then I design the space. You will have to do the ordering and set-up, but I am with you in as much of that process as you want!
4. “It’s expensive…”
eDesign is much more affordable than hiring an in-person designer. Cutting the travel and meet up costs helps tremendously and saves that time for more of the design process. Depending on your budget, the design cost for the room is really up to you at that point. If I can’t work within your budget I will be upfront and honest with you and will accommodate your budget the best I can. If I have a coupon code or a discount for a company I will be happy to share that with you as well. Additionally, working virtually allows me to work well with your schedule and to address any questions rapidly.
5. “I won’t be able to implement the design in my own space”
I have guides for measuring and taking photos and am here to help you throughout the process. If you follow the floor plan I give you and have provided the right measurements, installing your own space should be a breeze! Most of my clients enjoy taking ownership of ordering and setting up their space and I love to see pictures after!
Hopefully this clarifies any misconceptions you may have about eDesign. If you have any other misconceptions or questions about the process I would love to hear from you!
