This past weekend we held our annual Halloween Party! We skipped last years due to COVID and I knew I wanted this years party to be over the top! You’ll find recipes for punch and instructions for how I made the body bag at the end of this post.

Several of these ideas I came across on Pinterest and I knew I had to implement them in my home…starting with the body bag. When I first showed my husband the picture of what I wanted to do, he immediately shut it down – the inspo pic had the body on the front porch and he was worried someone would call the police. Then a friend suggested putting him in the shower, which was perfect! I took off my shower curtains, added some black lights above the sink, and we had a spooky situation going on in the bathroom. Instructions for how I made him are below!

I originally wanted a theme for costumes – 90’s movies, Franks & Steins, and a couple other crossed my mind but in the end I couldn’t think of one I loved so the theme was just overall “spooky”. The invite that I texted out read “Join Us for a Bloody Good Time” and instructed to wear a costume. I added some black lights throughout our home which added a spooky effect without being so dark.

Matt & I as Jack and Jill

Food and drinks were really fun this year. I was only going to have 2 punches but then it snowballed into including a vodka tonic bar and jello shot syringes also.

The 2 punches we did were a Hallowine Sangria and Apple Cider Champagne Punch (both found on Pinterest). I have included the recipes below! Some of the food we offered were mummy dogs, McDonalds nuggets (always a hit!), witch fingers, a veggie tray, bourbon meatballs in the crockpot, Mac and cheese bites, and mini capers salads on a stick.

These cauldron bowls were perfect for serving limes, lemons, and grapefruit!

BODY BAG:

To make the body bag you’ll need:

  • 2 contractor bags
  • a pair of mens boots
  • a pair of pants
  • lots of stuffing – plastic bags, foam, tissue paper, a blanket, cardboard – anything you have on hand! I saved a lot of stuff in anticipation for this

To start, take the pair of boots and stuff the ankle area. I took some cardboard and rolled it up. I think took the pants and stuffed them with plastic bags from the grocery store. When they were full I pulled them over the cardboard in the boots and laid them out on the floor. I carefully placed the boots and pants in the bottom of the first contractor bag and started to duct tape around the ankles, then in 2 more places up the legs. In the second contractor bag I took some materials and made a “head”. I duct tape the “neck” and then added more cardboard, a blanket, and more stuffing to make the body. I then duct taped the 2 bags together.

HALLOWINE SANGRIA

  • 2 bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 24 oz club soda
  • 1/4 cup orange liquer
  • 1 cup OJ
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup blackberries
  • 2 oranges, sliced thin

Heat the sugar in 1 cup of water until dissolved. Stir in with the wine and orange juice. Keep covered in the fridge 4-6 hours before serving. Right before you serve add in club soda, orange slices, and blackberries.

APPLE CIDER CHAMPAGNE

  • 1 gallon apple cider
  • 1 red apple, sliced thin
  • 1 green apple, sliced thin
  • 1 orange, sliced thin
  • 1 cup frozen cranberries
  • 1 TBSP pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 bottle of champagne (or ginger ale if you dont want alcohol)
  • vodka or whiskey (optional)
Take 2 cups of the apple cider and mix in the pumpkin pie spice. Whisk until combined. Refrigerate all the ingredients. Just before serving mix together the apple cider, sliced fruit, and add in the champagne. Top off with some vodka or whiskey. We didn’t add any vodka or whiskey and liked it just the way it was!
