Decorating your mantel is one of the easiest ways to make an impact in your home. When I get asked how to style a mantel (whether for the fall season, a holiday, or a regular day of the week) I like to suggest a short formula:
1. Choose pieces that are special or eye-catching
2. Ground the mantel with one main piece like a mirror or large piece of art work.
3. Use 3-5 accent pieces

After using the formula above, choose what shape you want on your mantel.
- Triangular (pictured above)
- Symmetrical
- Layered
Symmetrical
Use pieces with the same height to balance each side of your focal point. You can use the same items to create symmetry and keep it simple.

Layered
I love to layer art work on my mantel. Choose art that is in the same color family or same shade. I always go with neutrals and occasionally use a pop of color. Below I added a vase on one side with some faux stems for texture.
