The first thing most people walk into when arriving at your home is what we call your entryway. This is your first opportunity to make someone feel at ease, feel welcome or feel “wowed” when they step inside. My entryway is absolutely teeny tiny but it has to serve a lot of purposes to serve our family well. The 3 main ways our entryway has to serve us is as follows:
1). It has to hold our car keys & other essentials such as sunglasses, wallets, chapstick, and other last minute items we may need as we walk out the door.
2). Since our home is so small it also needs to serve as extra storage for who knows what.
3).Lastly it has to be aesthetically pleasing in welcoming our guests!
Since not everyone cares for these specific criteria (some people have a large entryway, some don’t need as much storage or just want to display seasonal decor, etc.) I put together a graphic for a couple key things to keep in mind. No matter the size or purpose of your entry, these tips can be helpful to creating a space that you love!
- Add light. Whether it’s a sconce, lamp, pendant, or chandelier pick something to match the scale of the room. When using an entryway table pick a large, simple lamp and use a lightbulb that is 2700 kelvin. This will give you a soft, warm glow that is inviting!
- Make sure you keep your table and accessories balanced with one another. This means don’t have a large table with a tiny mirror or vice versa. Make sure the height of your table decor compliments each other as well. The flowers look bigger and taller when put on a stack of books but they aren’t fighting for the attention of the lamp.
- Baskets add storage and function while looking chic. Whether you have a table with shelves or not, baskets work. Use them to store shoes, blankets, or to hide clutter!
