When to Save VS Splurge

When it comes to buying furniture and accent pieces for your home several questions may come to mind.

“Is this worth it?”

“Am I spending too much?”

“Should I spend $5,000 on this sofa when there’s a similar one for $2,000?”

Trust me, I get it! Sometimes self doubt, a guilty conscious, or too many options can make it hard to choose items for your home. So today I want to talk about saving vs. splurging on furniture, decor, lighting, and accent pieces.

1. There’s no “right” budget to follow when furnishing a space

Now, when you are decorating your home, apartment, bedroom,  or vacation home, there is nothing wrong with spending $100 on a pillow or $20. We all have different budgets and goals when it comes to decorating. Just because someones spends a certain amount doesn’t mean you have to feel pressure to do the same. Of course we all know this, but it is so easy to compare to others, even when it comes to our homes! Set a budget that works with your bank account and try to stick to that goal without going over

2. You don’t need to buy everything at once

Take your time!! Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will your home. Home is a feeling and it will take time to create the vibe you are going for. Taking your time when purchasing will also ensure you aren’t rushing anything and that you really love everything you’re bringing into your home!

3. Just because something is a lower cost doesn’t mean you’re getting the best bang for your buck.

Look I love a good deal just like anyone else, but cheap sometimes means just that – cheap. When spending money on things for your home make sure it’s good quality, you love it, and that it has purpose. Don’t just buy to buy; just because it’s cheap it doesn’t mean it belongs in your home.

4. Try investing in larger pieces of furniture and then “save” on smaller, more replaceable items.

I love to invest in my sofas, chairs, and tables. Saving on smaller items like lamps, bowls, rugs, curtains, and other home decor allows us to save up for those bigger pieces that we use everyday! I use the word invest because that’s what we d0 – invest in good quality pieces that will last for years to come and grow with our family.

5. If you’re planning on moving, are unsure of your style, or can’t make up your mind, it’s okay to “save” on those large pieces.

If you’re in a transition in your life or are anticipating a move, don’t wait on buying things that make your house feel like home! You can always sell those things or use them in other spaces in your next home.

6. It’s a good idea to “save” on trends and “splurge” on timeless pieces.

If it’s only in for a season, you don’t need to drop a ton of $ on it. Find a cheaper option to still get the look!

I’ve organized these pieces by categor starting with furniture and ending with lighting. No matter if you’re saving or splurging, there are sure to be items here you’ll love!
